Stone Chunk not researchable for locator

I was on a quest to research everything, got a stone chunk, put it in storage, and went to my research table .Even though the item is in storage (and other items have shown 1/1 while in storage) this one shows 0/1 even with a stone chunk in my cargo hold.
I picked up the haulable item, went to the research station, and was still unable to research it.
