Killing a scout ship in any way crashes the game

So this has happened 4 different times, done different ways; when I destroy a scout ship, it makes it so I can not remover or add anything to my inventory. When I try to restart the formal way, it crashes the game and makes the game overlay to the point where even ctrl, alt, delete does not overlay the crashing game, required restart 3 out of 4 times. I joined up with a multiplayer group, and it did it to us there as well.
