Gear mender doesn't use fuel

As demonstrated in the attached image, the gear mender does not use fuel. It'll go into the slot, but it won't run.

it does not work at all. no matter what fuel or gear i place there it does not work

Drop the fuel into the circle. Mine did the same thing. The square where you normally add fuel does not move it to the circle. The circle accepts the fuel and then it started working. Very broken behavior.
